If you want to keep your New Jersey home warm during cold winter months and lower your heating bills, clean gas heat is worth your consideration! It sounds too good to be true, but it isn’t. Should you consider converting from oil heat to gas heat? Here is the information you need to know:
What is an Oil to Gas Conversion?
First, it’s important to understand the oil to gas conversion process. Switching from oil, a fossil fuel that burns and leaves a solid residue, to natural gas requires several steps. If there is an existing gas line, it can possibly be used for the gas conversion process, providing it is large enough. Air Group will contact your Gas Utility with the new BTU rating. If there is no gas line, we will see if gas is available, and also have the Utility Company determine the cost, if any. Once the gas is available, and we have the new gas line in place, Air Group will remove your old, oil-fired equipment and replace it with clean, efficient gas-fired equipment. Finally, there may be some changes to the equipment within the system, such as replacing flue piping. You may need to have your chimney swept too, in order to clean out the built-up soot from burning oil. Also, the dreaded oil tank must be removed.
What are the Benefits?
There are several benefits to gas heat. For starters, the environmental impact is important. Natural gas is one of the cleanest burning fuels available. This reduces your home’s greenhouse gas emissions. Also, since it is a cleaner fuel source, your home’s air quality will improve too! Additionally, upgrading your hot water boiler to a high-efficiency one means that you can expect up to 98% AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency). The AFUE rating measures how efficiently an appliance is converting fuel to heat. Imagine no more oil smell, no more oil deliveries in the middle of the Winter, and a clean, efficient heating system.
Save Money on Your Heating Bill
A huge motivator to change to gas heat is the savings. Since heating your home with natural gas costs less than heating oil, your heating bill will decrease. These savings will add up over the years to cover the cost of the conversion process.
